If you arrive by ferry and are renting a cottage in Frisco or Buxton, call us in advance. We'll have your check-in package available at our Hatteras office to save you time.
Guaranteed Check-In time is 6:00 p.m. from June through September, and 5:00 p.m. October through May. Keep in mind that it is a challenge to prepare every cottage between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. When your cottage is ready, we'll be happy to check you in. If your cottage is not ready by the guaranteed check-in time, we'll give you a coupon for two free large pizzas.
Having every one of our cottages cleaned and prepared for the next guest is very important to OBR. We want you to arrive at a home that meets or exceeds your expectations. At the same time, we also recognize that it is sometimes difficult to predict your arrival time on Hatteras Island due to traffic and other considerations. If the home you are renting has been cleaned and inspected prior to your arrival on your check-in day, we will release it to you immediately. If your home is still in the process of being cleaned or is waiting to be cleaned, we will offer you an Early Check-In Option after 2:00 p.m. Early Check-In will allow you limited access to the home to get your groceries in a refrigerator, your belongings into the house and give you the use of a bathroom. The Outer Beaches Housekeeping Staff will continue to complete the cleaning per OBR's strict standards. Guests who select this option will be allowed access to the first floor only or to the closest bathroom and fridge. Guests in homes with pools will be allowed use of the pool. (Please note: All posted and other pool rules as stated in OBR's brochure and web site apply. Children under 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times.) Guests who elect to use this option will be required to sign an acknowledgement and release at the time they receive the keys to the home. In some cases, the home you are renting may have a vendor doing routine maintenance on your check-in day. If this occurs, you will not be given the Early Check-In Option, but will still have a Guaranteed check-in time of 6:00 p.m. from June through September, and 5:00 p.m. October through May.
Each office has a Late Check-In area. If you are planning to arrive after office hours on your check-in day, please check the appropriate box on your lease to indicate your after-hours arrival. If you arrive after office hours, check the Late Check-In area in the foyer at the appropriate office for your cottage. You'll find an envelope with your cottage name, which will contain two (2) keys and a map. If your cottage does not have "Beds Made" or "Towels Provided" and you have rented linens, they will be in a nylon bag in the foyer of the office, with your name on the bag. If you have any questions or problems, please come into the office by noon the next day.
We offer Friday-to-Friday rental weeks for some cottages. Friday check-ins eliminate traffic, get you a full weekend at the beach, permit you to shop in a nearly empty supermarket, and get you home for a full weekend of rest after your vacation. Some cottages that rent Friday-to-Friday do so only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, reverting to Saturday or Sunday during the other periods, as indicated. These cottages are identified in the cottage descriptions as "FRI/SAT" or "FRI/SUN".
