Local artful talent is once again being showcased at the 29th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, sponsored by the Dare County Arts Council and hosted by Glenn Eure's Ghost Fleet Gallery. The exhibit runs through 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16. Ghost Fleet Gallery is located on 210 E. Driftwood Street in Nags Head, hours Mon-Sat 11-5 and Sun 2-4.

A fun and beach worthy accompaniment to your movie night is Sand-Pail Popcorn. These ideas are festive and can even be chosen to match the theme of your movie night. A great project for kids too; have them put the popcorn in their own individual sand pails. Small sand-pails are available at garden supply stores or craft stores. The National Park Service (NPS) will host a public scoping meeting on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm to share information and seek public comments on the relocation of the Bodie Island Coast Guard and Lifesaving Stations. The Coast Guard Station is the abandoned historic structure located near MP 22. The adjacent Lifesaving Station is currently used as ranger offices by NPS staff. Monday, January 22, 2007
National Park Service Outer Banks Group Superintendent, Michael B. Murray has announced that the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will open to the public for climbing from April 20, 2007 through Columbus Day, October 8, 2007.

Nags Head, NC, New properties eyed for proposed community center, Since being turned down on their bid to use airport property for a proposed senior center the Dare County Board of Commissioners' Roanoke Island Senior/Community Center Committee have rallied to come up with a new site.

Dare County Schools Art Show & Reception January 7th-13th. Once again it is time for the Dare County Schools Annual Art Show. The show is an awesome showcase of art from each of Dare County's Elementary, Middle and High schools. So, mark your calendars for Sunday, January 7th and join us from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. for a drop-in reception honoring the student artists. The reception and show will be at Glenn Eure's Ghostfleet Gallery in Nags Head. The gallery is located in the area known as Gallery Row on Driftwood Street (near the Christmas Mouse).

The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society was organized in 1994 to aid in the preservation of the lighthouses in the area. They have suggested these books for good reading on the lighthouses of the Outer Banks.

Effective January 1, 2007, North Carolina Coastal Recreational Fishing License is Required on the Outer Banks. North Carolina's Coastal Recreational Fishing License (CRFL), administered by the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF), can be purchased on a 10-day, annual or lifetime basis, or combined with a variety of licenses issued by the Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC). This license allows recreational fishermen to harvest finfish for personal consumption; finfish harvested under this license cannot be sold. Fishermen using this license are held to the state's recreational size and possession limits.
