ROANOKE ISLAND, NC- The Tenth Annual Priceless Pieces Past & Present Quilt Extravaganza will be held at Roanoke Island Festival Park March 1-27 in the Art Gallery. The annual event is organized by the local Teacup Quilters. In this special tenth anniversary show, residents of Dare County participate in a community-wide celebration of the art of quilting.

The Lost Colony will be hosting auditions for the upcoming 2007 season Saturday, February 24th at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.Photographs and resumes are required for the audition. No preparation is needed for the children's audition at 9 am, however, children must be old enough to read. Dancers should report to The Lost Colony business office at 10:30 a.m. to participate in a dance movement audition. Production staff and actor/technician interviews will also take place at 9 a.m. Actors and singers will audition at 1:15 p.m. and should prepare one minute of memorized dialogue and singing.

Roanoke Island - A Civil War Living History Weekend, March 3(from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and March 4(from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.).   The event will commemorate the 145th Anniversary of The Battle of Roanoke Island. The seventh annual festival will feature re-enactors of the Union and Confederate soldiers and civilians. Other acitivities will include tasting food of the period, displays of arts and crafts and music. Admission to the event is included in the Park's general admission price and is good for both days of the event which will be held rain or shine.

The cook-off takes place at Stripers Bar and Grille at Shallowbag Bay Club in Manteo from 1 to 5 pm and admisssion is $10 for adults and $5 for children 7 to 12 years old (Children 6 and under are free).

This weekend, February 17-19, 10 am to 4 pm daily, The Elizabethan Gardens will be hosting its first President's Day Plant Sale.  An oil painting donated by artist John Silver will be raffled this year to kick off this weekend's President's Day Plant Sale and raise funds for expanding programs at The Elizabethan Gardens.  The subject of the painting is a bouquet of camellias grown by Louis Midgette, who served as superintendent of The Elizabethan Gardens for 28 years.

February 16 - 25, the Theatre of Dare presents their Winter Program "The Cemetery Club" a romantic comedy play. The play will run at 7:30 pm Friday the 16th, Saturday the 17th, Friday the 23rd, Saturday the 24th; and at 2 pm on Sunday the 18th and 25th.  All performances are at the Outer Banks Music Showcase at milepost 4.5 on U.S. 158 in Kitty Hawk. Advance tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at the Outer Banks Music Showcase, Gray's Department Store in Kitty Hawk, and Manteo Booksellers in Manteo.

Roanoke Island Aquarium has named a new director, Joe Malat.  The North Carolina Aquarium Division Director David Griffin recently announced the appointment to the public and the staff. Mr. Malat has been a longtime a longtime aquarium exhibits curator and Outer Banks fisherman. He was involved in the development of the Roanoke Island facility's expansion in 2000; where the Aquarium doubled in size and added the popular 285,000-gallon centerpiece attraction, the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" tank.
