The Outer Banks offers the best Windsurfing and Kiteboarding on the East Coast and some say, in the world. Steady wind speeds and the lack of tall structures on these barrier islands provide perfect conditions to enjoy these sports. With the strongest southwest winds coming in the peak summer months you can see how the Outer Banks is a paradise for water sport lovers and sports watchers vacationing here.

Kayaking is another very popular sport here in the Outer Banks. Considering that these beaches are about a mile or so wide and sixty miles long there is a lot of water and a lot of exploring to do. With the abundance of amazingly unique wildlife in the Outer Banks area as well as magnificent waterways and inlets to explore, this is a very popular sport. Eco-tours are available as well as historical Kayaking tours for this relaxing sport.

Some of the best Surfing can be enjoyed here in the Outer Banks. There are many breaks along these barrier islands with Cape Hatteras being the most recognized spot here. Warm water and beautiful seascape make this a perfect place to catch some waves and sun.

The Outer Beaches is a perfect place for Sailing. With constant winds and a shallow sound the conditions are great for sailing. The sound is shallow from five feet to about eight or nine feet deep. This means that the larger boats cannot navigate these areas and there is little boat traffic. You can go out sailing and see no other boats for hours at the time.

The Outer Banks is not tremendously populated with Jet Ski Launches. You can find companies that rent these and you can launch in these areas, but this area is very much about serenity and quiet. You would be better served to find another water sports here to whet your adventurous appetite.

Parasailing is popular here and the view is spectacular. You ride 400 - 800 feet up in the air here where the beaches are narrow means you can see over the barrier islands and have a view of both the sound and the ocean. From these heights you can see the long barrier islands stretching out with water on either side so it is just a outstanding view.
