How to Get a Marriage License on the Outer Banks:

In Dare County, marriage licenses are issued by the Register of Deeds Office. This office is located in Manteo at the Dare County Courthouse (located just off Highway 64.) Both the bride-to-be and groom-to-be must be present to apply for the license. The license costs $50 and is valid for up to 60 days from the date it is issued to you. To obtain a marriage license, you must have the following items with you when you apply for the license:

• A photo identification
• Social Security Card (or other official document with your Social Security number on it)
• If you are under 21 years old, you will need your Birth Certificate
• If you have been previously married, you will need your Divorce Papers

The Register of Deeds can be reached at (252) 475-5970 and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed on holidays and weekends.

How to Obtain a Beach Permit:

If you are planning on having your ceremony on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you must first obtain a permit from the National Park Service. There are regulations you must follow.
