I grew up in Troy, New York, an area of upstate NY adjacent to the Adirondack mountains. It was there that I first developed an interest in windsurfing and the outdoors in general.

In the mid-1970’s I moved to the San Francisco, California area and resided there until the early 80’s. I then moved back to the upstate NY region and pursued a business career in that area.

A logical step in my windsurfing avocation was to make a windsurfing safari trip to Hatteras Island in the early 80’s. The bug bit me and several windsurfing trips to Avon each year became my normal pattern.

In the 90’s, my wife and I acquired a rental cottage in Avon and made plans to move to the island. Once our family had grown and was off pursuing their own desires the time was at hand to make the official move. My wife currently manages a retail store in Hatteras Village and I became involved in real estate. We have never second-guessed our decision to move to the island.

I believe my experience as an out-of-state owner of a rental cottage gives me a different perspective when dealing with potential buyers. When dealing with current owners I think my experience allows me to adopt a different vantage point when discussing their needs and desires.
