On your first day in “Heaven,” you wake up to the faint sound of surf. Curious, you go out on the great wide deck of your beach house and stare at the shimmer and dazzle of first light on the Outer Banks. You make a cup of coffee in the splendidly-equipped kitchen and watch the changing light and strengthening blue. Your friends and family join you at the generous breakfast table, talking about how to spend the day. Should you go shopping? Visit the lighthouse? Or just sit in the gorgeous Great Room made entirely of juniper, under mile-high ceilings? You decide to make it simple. You pack up your stuff and walk the pristine path to a white beach. You spend the day swimming, surfing, fishing, and just lying around reading until the water turns phosphorescent blue. Back at the house, you make margaritas and sit up in the cozy loft, watching the sunset over Albemarle Sound. Somebody already has the grill going outside. The kids, always energetic, are swimming in the amazing private pool. As you head down for the hot tub, you're tired in the best sort of way. And all you can think is, I can't believe I've got six more days in this incredible Beach House!

The living room, dining room and kitchen make up one great room. This cottage has a gas fireplace and a futon in the loft. The hot tub is located on the second floor off the dining room facing south.
