A vacation rental with a mini-theater, also referred to as theater room, can easily turn a rainy afternoon into a day at the movies, without ever stepping outside of the house. Our vacation rentals that feature this amenity often have DVD libraries, projection screens, and a host of other movie-friendly features that will surely make the theater room your favorite place to relax off the beach.
Head over to the local rental store to pick up a new release, or simply bring along your old favorites from home. With a little popcorn and a few refreshments, a home movie night may very well become the best night of your Hatteras Island vacation.
With a mini-theater, Outer Beaches Realty guests can enjoy the real theater experience in their home. Obviously, if you are renting a vacation rental home that features a mini-theater / theater room, you're going to need some great blockbusters to enjoy on the big screen.
Hatteras Island vacationers will find a number of options for renting or purchasing movies to enjoy at the beach house, which are available in virtually all areas of the Outer Banks. One of the easiest ways to rent movies is via the DVD kiosk which is located right outside of Food Lion in centrally located Avon. A number of beach gear rental stores, as well as local electronics stores, also feature video rentals which include new releases, classic favorites, and even popular surfing or kiteboarding movies for sports lovers.
To purchase DVDs, check out the local pharmacy, chain hardware store, and even grocery stores. Many of Hatteras Island's "catch all" stores that feature a little bit of everything that visitors might need on their vacation even offer a small movie section or stand. Though the supply may be more limited than a standard video store, vacationers will find they still have plenty of options, and plenty of popular titles to choose from.
Some vacation rental homes or condos may offer premium cable channels, or even a NETFLIX subscription for easy movie streaming. Simply review an individual home's detailed amenity list to see if this option is available with your rental of choice.
Most all vacation rentals offer either cable or satellite cable, so guests who may not be in the mood for a full-length feature will have dozens of channels to choose from. Check out the local preview guide to get a review of the channels available, or spend a little time watching "Channel 12," the local Outer Banks cable channel that features a series of segments on local attractions, restaurants, activities and even real estate.
Why not watch a movie about the Outer Banks while you're staying on the Outer Banks? The Hatteras Island region, which is well known for its gorgeous wind-swept and romantic scenery, has been the subject of several films, including a recent summer blockbuster. "Nights in Rodanthe," based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, is the tale of two dune-crossed lovers who unexpectedly meet in the town of Rodanthe. Released in 2008, a number of scenes were filmed at iconic Hatteras Island locations, including the Rodanthe Fishing Pier, the Hatteras ferry docks, and a famous local beach house which set the stage for romance as the "Inn at Rodanthe." For a family movie that everyone can enjoy, Nights in Rodanthe should definitely be a headliner on your home theater marquis.
For a classic Hatteras Island tale of military history and politics, consider renting the "The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell." This drama covers the fate of an American General who revolutionized military strategies by performing successful air bombings on test sites off the coast of Hatteras village, which included the destruction of an "unsinkable" captured German battleship. Though a little older, (it was released in 1955), and a little hard to find, this film will be a real treat for history buffs, and everyone will enjoy watching a young Gary Cooper and Rod Steiger act their hearts out in one of their best performances.
Though technically not a movie, country music fans will enjoy a screening of the Brad Paisely music video "Waiting on a Woman." Filmed at a number of Outer Banks locations, and featuring treasured local resident Andy Griffith, this sad but catchy music video will surely get stuck in your head all vacation long.
