Each year, Outer Beaches recognizes a local graduating high school senior who exemplifies an extraordinary commitment to service. This year’s recipient of the Outer Beaches Realty Community Service Scholarship is Sandra Sanchez from Frisco, NC.

There were 4 highly qualified applicant for this year’s Scholarship which made it a challenge for selection. Sandra Sanchez was chosen to receive the 2018 scholarship because she demonstrated an incredible ability to balance her responsibilities as a student, a family member, an employee and a community member. Her inspiration for helping others and the kindness, passion and joy that she displayed also lead us to our decision.

Sandra maintained a 4.0 GPA while holding down a part-time job in customer service working at Bro’s Sandwich Shack in Avon. She displayed her commitment to helping others through her volunteering with clean-up efforts after Hurricane Matthew devastated parts of the island, at Red Cross blood drives, at the Surfing Turkey and Shorebreak 5K’s, by coaching youth soccer, and by tutoring others in both Spanish and Math. Sandra is fully involved in extra-curricular activities as a student as well. She played volleyball and soccer, was a basketball cheerleader, managed the men’s soccer team, was treasurer of the National Honor Society, member of DECA, and took part in the Science Olympiad and was on the Math Competition Team.

Sandra plans to attend UNC-Charlotte to pursue a degree in criminal justice with the hopes of becoming an attorney. When you meet Sandra, it is clear that she is driven and will continue to be successful and active in her community.
