Hook, line, and sinker! Whether you enjoy fishing as a relaxing hobby or as a competitive angler, fall on Hatteras Island is a fisherman's haven. Starting around September, yellow and black fin tuna, wahoo, and dolphin are being caught offshore, and king mackerel may be just on their tails. Inshore charters typically catch puppy drum, a few larger drum, trout, bluefish, and some Spanish mackerel, while beach and pier fishermen can catch much of the same plus sea mullet and croaker. Take advantage of off-season rates on vacation rentals to head home with a bounty in your cooler and your wallet, then check out these five popular local fishing tournaments below held every fall.
