Directions to the Waves Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 25.7 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The office is located on the east side of Highway 12, just north of the United States Post Office in Waves. The Waves Office is located between mile markers 41 and 42.

Directions to the Avon Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 40.7 miles south of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. Once you arrive in Avon, pass through the first traffic light, then turn left at the third street past the traffic light onto Tigrone Blvd. The Avon Office is located between mile markers 55 and 56.

 

Directions to the Hatteras Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 57.5 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The Hatteras Office is located between mile markers 71 and 72.

Where can I go for groceries?

You can shop at, Conner's Supermarket. It is a small family owned and operated grocery store located just South of the Osprey Plaza. If you need more options you can drive north to Avon to visit the Food Lion, the only chain grocery store on the Island.

Are there lifeguards in Buxton?

Yes, seasonal schedules from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The lifeguard station is located at the old lighthouse beach.

When can I climb the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse?

Where are the nature trails?

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse a .75 mile looped nature trail is found just across from the lighthouse on Lighthouse Road.

British Cemetery Located just past the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the wide trail near the British Cemetery extends all the way to the town of Frisco.

Flowers Ridge Road and Water Association Road These two residential roads in Buxton have several trailheads and access points.

Old Doctors Road Located in Buxton, this road and its subsequent access points are best accessed by a 4WD vehicle.
