Rodanthe is the northernmost village of the seven on Hatteras Island. With spacious beaches, rolling dunes, and abundant wildlife, vacationers will have plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind. If you’re a history buff, you'll want to visit the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, which has been renovated into a museum with lifesaving re-enactments each week as well as memorabilia of the stations history.

Directions to the Waves Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 25.7 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The office is located on the east side of Highway 12, just north of the United States Post Office in Waves. The Waves Office is located between mile markers 41 and 42.
Directions to the Avon Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 40.7 miles south of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. Once you arrive in Avon, pass through the first traffic light, then turn left at the third street past the traffic light onto Tigrone Blvd. The Avon Office is located between mile markers 55 and 56.
Directions to the Hatteras Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 57.5 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The Hatteras Office is located between mile markers 71 and 72.

Food Lion, the Island's only major grocery store. It is located in the Hatteras Island shopping plaza at the 2nd stop light in Avon. You may also like to visit Conner's Supermarket. It is a small family owned and operated grocery store located in Buxton just South of the Osprey Plaza. For smaller items there is a Dollar General located in Waves.
Chicamacomico was the first of seven Life-Saving Stations built in North Carolina in 1874 and is one of the most unique historical maritime sites on the East coast. Visitors get a chance to tour the site at their own pace. Each room displays maritime artifacts and stories. There is a reenactment every Thursday between Memorial Day and Labor Day at 2:00 pm.

The jug handle bridge is considered part of phase II of the Bonner Bridge Replacement Project, and is the last of the three bridges within the project guidelines to be built. The jug handle bridge will bypass the S-Turns section of N.C. 12, which is highly susceptible to breaches during storms.
Austin's South Island Seafood and Fresh Produce at 24202 Highway 12 in Rodanthe! They have everything to bring "home" to prepare a perfect seafood feast at your beach house. They will also prepare a low country boil to cook at home as well. Don't forget the fresh veggies to round out the delicious feast.
There is a charging station at the Kitty Hawk Kites complex in Rodanthe, compliments of the Cape Hatteras Electric Co-op. While your car is charging you can grab a bite to eat, indoors or out, at the Good Wines Bar & Grill. You can even bring your pooch along, only outside though, and they will even bring him/her a bowl of water. They also have a great retail store on site as well!
There is a charging station at Pangea Tavern located in Avon by the Avon Fishing Pier on the oceanside of 12.
With access to watersports on the sound side and ocean side, paddle boarding, windsurfing, and kayaking are just a few of the activities you'll enjoy. You can rent most kinds of equipment or take lessons. Just to the north is the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge a bird watchers paradise. Rodanthe is a definite place to visit.
