Directions to the Waves Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 25.7 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The office is located on the east side of Highway 12, just north of the United States Post Office in Waves. The Waves Office is located between mile markers 41 and 42.
Directions to the Avon Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 40.7 miles south of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. Once you arrive in Avon, pass through the first traffic light, then turn left at the third street past the traffic light onto Tigrone Blvd. The Avon Office is located between mile markers 55 and 56.
Directions to the Hatteras Office: As you leave Nags Head, this office is located 57.5 miles South of the traffic light at the intersection of the US 158 Bypass and Highway 12 South at Whalebone Junction. The Hatteras Office is located between mile markers 71 and 72.
Tuesday and Friday - Trash should be placed at the street the night before
Food Lion, the Island's only major grocery store. It is located in the Hatteras Island shopping plaza at the 2nd stop light in Avon. You may also like to visit Conner's Supermarket. It is a small family owned and operated grocery store located in Buxton just South of the Osprey Plaza. For smaller items there is a Dollar General located in Waves.
Watersman’s Bar and Grill- Both young and old will like this beautiful spot to have lunch or dinner on the Pamlico Sound. Watch the kite-boarders launch from Real Kiteboarding. Let the kids run around on the grassy area behind the restaurant. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.
Top Dog Cafe- stop in this super casual restaurant for some great Caribbean cuisine. It is located directly across from the Dairy Queen to cool down with some ice cream after dinner.
Kitty Hawk Kites- offers SUP tours. There is a huge selection of kites and clothing in their largest store on Hatteras Island.
Forbes- Stop in at the Kitty Hawk Kites building for the best hot or cold coffee and pastries.
Hatteras Island Surf Sail (Barton’s)- stop in just behind Dairy Queen and set up for surfing, kite-boarding lessons or windsurfing lessons.
Waves holds some of the oldest and best surf shops in the area. Vacationers can rent gear or even sign up for camps to learn about different water sports. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back, you’ll be sure to enjoy the charming shops and restaurants here. Whether you want to sunbathe on the quiet, secluded beaches or play in the miles of water, Waves is a true vacation destination.
