BBQ fundraiser for Cape Hatteras Wounded Warriors

A barbecue dinner fundraiser will support the Cape Hatteras Wounded Warriors Fund.

The fundraiser is set for Saturday, May 24, starting at 10 a.m. during the Memorial Day Weekend Arts and Crafts show at Indian Town Gallery, 50840 Highway 12 or MP 65, Frisco. The dinner, at $9 per plate, features barbecue, beans, slaw, a roll, and a beverage. The dinner is available for take-out only.

In 2011, two Hatteras Island men started this unique project for Purple Heart recipients and their families. John McGee and Kevin McCabe set about to provide combat-wounded Purple Heart recipients sincere hospitality and quality vacation time on Hatteras Island.  Over three summers, generosity has poured forth. Hatteras islanders give housing, fishing trips, gift certificates to restaurants and much more. In the 2013 summer, the Cape Hatteras Wounded Warrior Vacation Program brought three young Wounded Warrior Purple Heart recipients along with their families to Hatteras Island for one full week of rest and relaxation.

The Hatteras Island project works directly with the Military Order of the Purple Heart at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and the Wounded Warrior Battalion-East. The Wounded Warrior Battalion works with wounded, ill and injured Marine and Navy personnel and their families throughout the country.
