Coronavirus FAQs

We’ve been busy cross-checking our chemicals with the recommended list of chemicals that have been found to kill the virus. The good news is that Outer Beaches chemicals used on hard surfaces do, in fact, kill COVID-19. With more information developing daily, we're actively watching and cross-training our team to make sure everyone is aware of the situation.

Each of our housekeepers is trained and up to date on the best cleanliness practices for sanitation and disinfection. These processes are evolving as we learn more information. The OBR commercial laundry facility, the largest of its kind on the Island, enables us to provide high-temperature water to provide maximum sanitizing not achievable from home laundry machines. Read more about our cleaning standards.

Under our standard Play Travel Protection coverage, there is coverage in place:

  • If someone gets sick (coronavirus or other illness) and cannot travel;
  • If someone gets quarantined

We are unable to carry reservations into the next calendar year. A change of rental dates to a future year calendar would be considered a cancellation. Please read through Outer Beaches Policies and Procedures regarding cancellations.

If you have a current reservation during the Dare County closure, we now have other options for you. Please give us a phone call to discuss.

All vacation reservations are following guidelines and restrictions set by Dare County. Once the travel restriction is lifted, we will begin honoring all reservations as originally agreed upon per our vacation rental agreement.

Please read this page for how we're handling cleaning and safety procedures for all of our vacation rentals on Hatteras Island. Given all our safety and cleaning precautions, commercial laundry, and our Island’s locale, we believe OBR is uniquely prepared to provide the lowest risk vacation choice available in the country. Even safer than where many of our Guests come from.

Visitors will be allowed to enter Dare County on Saturday, May 16th. To find out information on re-entry, please visit this page.

Many Community pools have reopened. It's important to follow the health & safety guidelines presented by each individual community. Private pools at your OBR home will be prepared and ready for your arrival.

Dare County has not placed a time limit on the reopening of the County, making it extremely difficult to inform future Guests what to expect. For Guests due to arrive in April, we'll be reaching out via email with our next steps.

Please understand that due to the high volume of phone calls and questions, we're responding in the order that the phone calls were received. Please allow us time to respond as we do have Guests who were anticipated to arrive starting this weekend. We'll continue to update the main coronavirus page with any new communication and will be in touch on our website and via email correspondence.

If you need to get in direct contact, please reach out to Guest Services at 1-800-627-1850.

Absolutely, we are taking reservations through December. Feel confident knowing that if you book a new reservation and there is a Dare County Mandated order due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we'll be able to fully refund you for your reservation. Read more about that here. We also recommend you purchase 'Cancel For Any Reason' Insurance (third-party link here) so you're covered regardless of what's happening.
