Hello, and thanks for checking in with Outer Beaches Realty on Hatteras Island. This is Communication #10 for Hurricane Dorian as of Sunday, September 8th at 1 PM. Currently on Hatteras, it is partly sunny and 84 degrees with winds NE 5-10.
A Mandatory Evacuation order remains in effect for all of Dare County.
Current Conditions:The beautiful weather that usually follows a storm has arrived. Unfortunately, we cannot share with our Guests as the Island remains closed to visitors. Power has been restored to the entire Island. Homeowners, residents, and essential personnel are now permitted to return. We’re hopeful that the northern villages on the Island are re-opened at the very least.
OBR crews have completed all home inspections in Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo with only minor issues discovered. Today, we hope to complete all of Avon and commence the southern villages now that water as receded. We’re still seeing areas of Hwy 12 with standing water, but all is passable. We now await word from Dare County on re-opening part of the Island and expect to receive such news by early tomorrow morning. We will issue an updated Communication as soon as that happens, but in any event, our next update will be by 1 PM on Monday.
For Guests due to arrive this weekend we wish we could provide more definitive information, but we are at the mercy of local government decision making. We appreciate your patience and understanding and want you to know we are preparing as fast as we can to be sure our homes are ready for occupancy when those decisions are made. Our phone lines have been down today and are expected to be restored by Monday morning. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us via email at [email protected] or on our chat function on our website. Live agents are here until 5 PM and answering these messages. We will keep you updated with the best information and assessments available to us.
HOMEOWNERS As we receive damage assessment reports, we will prioritize contact with homes having received more than surface damage. Please be patient. No early news is good news for you. Eventually EVERY owner will hear from us to review our findings. Refraining from placing non-urgent phone calls will enable us to get through our inspections more expeditiously. We are in the process of calling Owners of homes with issues...so no news is good news, so far.
Our Avon and Waves offices are open today. Most employees will be out in the field completing inspections. In the meantime, watch some football or tennis and enjoy the weekend. Our next report will be at 1 PM tomorrow, when we will have current, updated information. Enjoy this first weekend of September, even though you cannot be here at the moment. We’re looking forward to getting this behind us and back to normal operations as soon as possible. Carpe Diem!
