COMMUNICATION #11 FOR HURRICANE DORIAN
1 PM, Monday, September 9, 2019

Hello, and thanks for checking in with Outer Beaches Realty on Hatteras Island. This is Communication #11 for Hurricane Dorian as of Monday, September 9th at 1 PM. Currently on Hatteras, it is party cloudy and 84 degrees with NE winds at 5 mph.

A Mandatory Evacuation order remains in effect for Hatteras Island.

However, the northern villages of Rodanthe/Waves Salvo will be reopened Tuesday at 12 PM for all visitors. Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras villages remain closed at this time.

Current Conditions: Things are improving on the Island as water continues to disappear, although there are still many areas with standing water as it slowly seeps in. Highway 12 is passable throughout the Island, although some areas still have standing water. Power has been restored to the entire Island. Specific information as follows:

All Guests with existing reservations for homes in Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo will be contacted by the end of the day by phone or text to confirm your home is ready for occupancy, or if not, to identify other options. There are only a handful of homes in this area not ready for occupancy. Be sure to do your major food shopping in Nags Head before entering the Island until Avon reopens.

Once other areas of Hatteras Island are reopened,we will make similar contacts to those Guests. We suspect Avon will be the next village to be reopened, so stand by.

Guests who purchased Travel Insurance may be eligible for your full week coverage. Please contact the Travel Guardian to inquire and/or place your claim.

Our main office phones are not fully operational as we await repair from the phone company. Thus, you may be getting calls from unknown numbers as we use our cell phones to call/text you…be on the lookout. We also have back-up phone services answering our calls and taking reservations. The OBR website is also available for online reservations and chat function.

Remember the island has just suffered from a significant hurricane hit. Thus, please excuse the clean-up efforts and debris scattered throughout. All clean-up is underway but will take some time to complete.

HOMEOWNERS we are in the process of calling Owners whose homes received damage. Please be patient. No early news is good news for you. EVERY owner will hear from us to review our findings. Fortunately, there are few homes which suffered more than minimal damage.

Our Avon and Waves offices are open today. Most employees will be out in the field completing inspections. We’re looking forward to getting this behind us and back to normal operations as soon as possible. We will post interim news of reopening announcements from Dare County as they become released. Enjoy your day.
