2 PM -- Monday, August 3, 2020

Greetings from Outer Beaches Realty. Currently on Hatteras Island, the wind is 11 mph, the skies are partly cloudy, and the temperature is around 86 F. Tropical Storm Isaias is now located about 180 miles SSW of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

A mandatory evacuation order remains in place for all Hatteras Island visitors, residents and property owners.

Hatteras Island is officially under a Tropical Storm Warning and a State of Emergency has been declared. Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to take another turn toward the north-northeast along with an increase in speed as early as this afternoon. The Pamlico Sound and Albemarle Sound are now under a Storm-Surge Warning, meaning there is a possibility of life-threatening inundation from rising water during the next 48 hours. Some areas of the Outer Banks have started to receive rain and Hatteras Island is not too far behind. Once the rain begins, coastal flooding is likely. We highly recommend you visit the Dare County emergency management page and sign up for the alerts for new information on re-entry. As we learn new directives from the County, we will share them with you.

Thank you for all the wonderful feedback we’re getting! We are thankful to have such patient Guests while we get through this. Isaias should move quickly and fierce and we’ll be back to normal in no time. Our next scheduled update will be by Tuesday, August 4, 2020 by 12 PM.

11:30 AM -- Saturday, August 1, 2020

Greetings from Outer Beaches Realty. Currently on Hatteras Island, the wind is calm at 7 mph, the skies are partly cloudy, and the temperature is around 87°F. Hurricane Isaias is located about 40 miles WSW of Nassau and remains a Category 1 Hurricane with sustained winds around 80 mph.

Effective NOON today, Dare County has ordered a mandatory visitor evacuation. All visitors are required to leave as expeditiously as possible.

A mandatory evacuation order for all Hatteras Island residents and property owners becomes effective on Sunday, August 2 at 6 a.m.

While Isaias is not yet impacting Hatteras Island, we know from previous experience that hurricanes have the potential to become a very serious situation very quickly. Coastal flooding and coastal storm surge are likely to begin soon, while conditions are expected to deteriorate in the days ahead.

We wish we had better news for you, but in this case, it is better to stay on the safe side. Once the area is cleared to be safe again, we will stay in touch with new developments on re-entry. In the meantime, keep an eye on our hurricane page, webcam page, and social media pages for updates on Hatteras Island. Our next update will be Sunday, August 2, 2020 by 5 p.m.

COMMUNICATION # 1 FOR HURRICANE ISAIAS

2:30 PM -- Friday, July 31, 2020

Greetings from Outer Beaches Realty. Currently on Hatteras Island, the wind is calm around 12 mph, the skies are blue, and the temperature is warm around 85°F.

Isaias has certainly kept the forecasters guessing and last night, the storm was upgraded to a Hurricane. We awoke this morning to see that Isaias' path continues to shift towards the eastern part of the coastline and right toward the Outer Banks. There is still uncertainty as to what will happen by the time it reaches our area early next week. Hatteras Island is not yet under a hurricane watch. Right now, it appears that wind, heavy rain, and potential storm surge are likely to occur.

With your safety in mind, the likelihood of Dare County issuing a mandatory evacuation is high. Dare County has asked that we urge you to delay your travel until an announcement is made no later than tomorrow morning. Please keep watch on our page and the Dare County Emergency Page with the next steps to be made as you begin to travel to Hatteras Island.

We encourage Guests to plan and consider reading our hurricane information page with expert tips from our staff, based on our many years of experience with storms on Hatteras Island.

Our next update will be this evening. Thanks for choosing Outer Beaches Realty. We will continue to keep you updated and we’ll be in touch again soon.
