The Village of Avon

Avon is the central village of Hatteras Island located about 30 miles south of Oregon Inlet and about 20 miles north of Hatteras Inlet. Here you will find Food Lion, the Island's only chain grocery store, gift shops, and local restaurants. The Avon Pier is a hot spot for fishing especially with the large Red Drum that flock here often.


The Town of Buxton

The town of Buxton is home to the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is the tallest operational brick lighthouse in North America, sitting at over 200 feet tall. The lighthouse is open to the public and features a Visitors Center and nature trail. The 3,000-acre Buxton Woods is a maritime forest and is perfect for a relaxing hike beneath the canopy of towering oaks.


The Village of Frisco

The village of Frisco lies between Buxton and Hatteras and remains a small community without the noise and busy nature of the mainland. The popular Brigands Bay subdivision is located in Frisco to the delight of windsurfers, sound fishermen, kayakers, and sailors. Two main attractions in Frisco are the Frisco Native American Museum and History Center and the Billy Mitchell Airfield.


The Village of Hatteras

The best fishing on the East Coast can be found on Hatteras Island in the southernmost community, Hatteras Village. Youll find numerous charter boats that offer abundant sport fishing in the Pamlico Sound or the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic Ocean only 15 miles away.


The Village of Rodanthe

Rodanthe is the northernmost village of the seven on Hatteras Island. With spacious beaches, rolling dunes, and abundant wildlife, vacationers will have plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind. If you're a history buff, youll want to visit the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, which has been renovated into a museum with lifesaving re-enactments each week as well as memorabilia of the stations history.

 

The Village of Salvo

Salvo is the quietest and most southern of the tri-villages. If you're dreaming of uninterrupted beach and family time, this is the perfect spot. Activities here are all about the water. Vacationers can enjoy calm, shallow sound waters perfect for paddleboarding or kayaking or take surf lessons at the beach.


The Village of Waves

The village of Waves is the second town that sits between Rodanthe and Salvo. The quiet beaches and endless ocean to sound views make this a popular spot to vacation. With a name like Waves, its obvious that this is home to some of the best kiteboarding and surfing in the Outer Banks.
