What Makes Outer Beaches Realty Different?

Beach Gear Included Homes

Enjoy a beach gear credit included in your stay when you book a vacation in a participating home. Here’s how it works:

  • Book a stay at a participating Beach Gear Included home during select dates.
  • After booking, watch for an email from our gear partner VayK Gear. You’ll receive an invitation with a unique link to a gear selection page with your reservation information and a credit already applied. 
  • Select your desired gear, check out, and that’s it. VayK Gear will automatically schedule your equipment delivery to your home on your check-in day.

Before Arrival

If you’re running late, don’t worry. If your home is keyless, you can go directly to the home when you arrive—our team will leave a check-in packet, including keys and a map to your cottage, in the foyer of your designated office. Packets are filed in alphabetical order by the name of the vacation home. Stop by the office the next day to finish the check-in process.

You’ll make your full payment at the time of booking, unless your reservation is eligible to be paid over two installments. In that case, you’ll have the option to pay 50% of your balance when you book, and the remainder will be charged to the card on file 30 days before your trip date. You can also finalize your payment in your Trip Manager.

Absolutely. Our customer support team can tell you about local activities, stores, restaurants, historic landmarks, accessible beaches, piers, and more things you can see and do before check-in.

Yes, you’ll be given the option to purchase travel insurance when booking your stay. Learn more about our cancellation policy and travel insurance.

During Your Stay

Check-in time is 6 p.m. In some cases, a home may be clean before your scheduled check-in time, but please wait for a notification from our team before you enter the home.

Yes, bed linens and towels will automatically be included with your vacation rental.

All our vacation homes are supplied with enough essentials to get your week at the beach started, including: toilet paper and liquid hand soap in each bathroom, trash can liners and a large capacity garbage bag, dish liquid and dishwasher detergent, paper towels, and laundry detergent. Depending on usage and the size of your party, you may need to supplement some of these items during the course of your stay.

If you plan to buy your groceries prior to check-in, please bring coolers to keep your items cold until your vacation home is ready for occupancy.

Check-out time is 10 a.m. When you depart, don’t forget your food and personal items. We also ask that dishes are washed and put away and trash is taken out. Secure windows, set the thermostat to 72 degrees, and lock the door behind you. Remember to return your keys (if you have them) and cottage map to the appropriate office.

Guests staying in homes with keyless entry do not need to stop by the office to check out. If you leave early, please enter your exit code in the door to let our staff know you have departed.

Please notify the appropriate office immediately. Every effort will be made to correct any problem as quickly as possible.

Many homes have private pools, or an OBR or subdivision pool pass may be included with your reservation. Daily or weekly passes to the OBR pool in Avon are also available for sale if your cottage does not provide one to you. Members of the Outer Beaches Realty Beach Club have free use of the OBR pool in Avon.

Some of our vacation homes offer free solar heating for chilly spring and fall days. Other pools are electrically or gas heated at an additional cost of $400 per week (plus tax and travel insurance premium, if selected). Homes with a metered gas supply will be assessed a charge based on actual usage at market rate on Hatteras Island for propane gas during the period of use. Pool heat, when selected and paid as part of the reservation, is turned on the day of arrival.

The community pool is open seasonally, generally from May–September or Memorial Day–Labor Day. Please call 855-293-6604 for this year’s dates and hours of operation, or inquire at check-in.

Yes. Licenses can be purchased at most marinas and tackle shops for a modest fee.

Unfortunately, Hatteras Island no longer hosts home recycling pick-up. If you collect your recyclable materials while staying with us, you may deposit them at one of our local transfer stations, like Buxton Transfer Station. Transfer stations request that items are sorted by the following categories: glass, mixed paper and cardboard, number 1 and 2 plastics.

VayK Gear Beach Rental Gear

Enjoy a beach gear credit included in your stay when you book a vacation in a participating home. VayK Gear has a fantastic selection of safe, high-quality gear, including:

 

  • Adult and kid bikes and bike helmets

  • Single and tandem kayaks and life jackets

  • Beach loungers and umbrellas

  • Surfboards and stand up paddleboards

  • Beach wagons

  • Corn hole sets

  • Skimboards and body boards

  • Coolers

Selection changes can be made up to 48 hours prior to arrival free of charge. Selection changes made after that point are subject to availability; a $25 delivery charge and a $50 late fee will apply, and your delivery will be made on the next scheduled delivery day. You can make changes up to 24 hours after your arrival.

VayK Gear will deliver your gear to your vacation home on your arrival day. At this time, beach gear can be delivered to houses only, not condos. (Sorry, no pickups.) At the end of your stay, just leave the gear clean and where you found it, and VayK Gear will pick it up.

Any balance over the credit can be paid by credit or debit card. Any remaining credit may be used for beach gear selections until 24 hours after you arrive. Credit may not be used toward damage protection, service fees, or late charges.

Yes—just check the “Gear Damage Protection” box during checkout and you can vacation worry-free.

No, but VayK Gear keeps a credit card on file for any damaged or lost gear.

Yes. Outer Beaches by Vacasa has worked with VayK Gear to create a deal for homes that do not have beach gear included. You will receive an email from VayKGear 45 days before your arrival with an exclusive discount offer.
